Create and share custom themes

In Deckset for macOS, you can customize one of the built-in themes and save the result as a reusable theme.

Create a custom theme

  1. Select the theme you want to use as your starting point.
  2. Click Customize in the toolbar to open the theme customization panel.
  3. Make your changes.
  4. Click Save as New Theme. This button becomes available after you make a change.
  5. Open the theme options menu next to Save as New Theme and choose Rename to give the new theme a name.

The new theme appears in the theme gallery immediately. You do not need to export and reimport it.

To create another independent copy of a custom theme, make your changes and use Save as New Theme again.

Rename, reset, or remove a theme

Open the theme options menu to:

  • Rename a custom theme.
  • Revert to Original to discard its customizations.
  • Remove a custom theme from Deckset. Removing a theme cannot be undone, so export a copy first if you want to keep it.

Export a theme

To share a theme or move it to another Mac, open its options menu and choose Export. Deckset saves it as a .dstheme file.

Exporting does not create another theme in the gallery. It saves a file that you can share, transfer, or keep as a backup.

Import a theme

Choose File → Import Theme… and select the .dstheme file. A theme that is not already installed will appear in the theme gallery.

If the theme already exists, Deckset asks whether to replace the existing version. Replacing it updates that theme rather than adding another gallery entry.

Why doesn’t a duplicated theme file create a new theme?

Every .dstheme file contains an internal identifier. Deckset uses this identifier—not the filename or visible theme name—to decide whether two files represent the same theme.

Renaming a .dstheme file, or editing only its visible name, does not create a separate theme. A copied file retains the same identifier, so Deckset treats it as another version of the existing theme.

To create a separate theme, use Save as New Theme inside Deckset. This assigns a new identifier automatically.
