# YouTube Embeds!

You can also use URL parameters like `?t=30s` to specify a start time for the clip.

YouTube creators can disable playback outside YouTube for individual videos. When a video cannot be embedded in Deckset, it remains on the slide with an explanation and an Open on YouTube button. A thumbnail wrapped in a Markdown link remains a link; it does not create an embedded player.
See HTML Export for the separate browser and hosting requirements for exported YouTube embeds.
Start Time Offsets
Start offsets also work for local video and audio files, not just YouTube embeds.

You can use seconds directly or combine hours, minutes, and seconds, for example 45, 90s, 1m30s, or 1h2m3s.

# Video Layout Control
Use the same layout modifiers as with images to control the positioning of videos.
- `left` and `right`
- `fit` and `fill`
- Percentage sizing, e.g. `50%`
- `hide` to hide the video. Audio will play regardless.

Video Playback Control
Add playback directives after the filename to tweak how the clip behaves:
autoplay— start the video automatically when the slide appears.loop— replay the video continuously.mute— silence the audio track.
Mix and match them as needed:

Automatic slide advancement
You can add autoadvance to the modifiers to jump to the next slide as soon as the video finishes:

This only works for the last video on the slide and the slide cannot contain build lists.
Control Video While Presenting
On macOS, press k in Presentation Mode to play or pause the current video. The media Play/Pause key provides the same control.
Use alt(...) to give an informative video a useful description, or mark a purely decorative clip with decorative. See Accessible Media. Obsidian-style video links are covered in Obsidian Media Embeds.
